Claus has lived with spastic paralysis all his life, and aids have always been necessary for him in everyday life. He, therefore, has a rollator and an electric wheelchair, both of which can be used indoors and outdoors.
After an unfortunate fall in the kitchen and a long hospital stay, he has added a VELA kitchen chair for disabled to his collection. It has been a positive addition in every way.
Spastic paralysis can vary widely from person to person. For Claus, the paralysis primarily affects the left side of the body, and the fall resulted in a fracture of the lumbar spine. This has made everyday chores a little more difficult for Claus. But now he can manage with his kitchen chair with wheels.
It is essential to Claus to be able to do most of his daily chores himself. So the kitchen has been arranged with enough room for his legs under the kitchen table when sitting down.
And the oven has been placed high up and opens sideways – all of which allows Claus to cook his meals with his handicap accessible kitchen chair.
Spastic paralysis often means that there are problems with balance, and this is also Claus’ experience. He finds it difficult to get up into a standing position; he has bad knees and impaired gait function.
He is therefore delighted with his handicap kitchen chair when he moves around the home.
When Claus fell and fractured his lumbar spine, it suddenly became even more difficult for him to move around. So he got a VELA kitchen chair – which, in Claus’ case, is an excellent aid for spastic paralysis.
The kitchen lift chair has an electric lift, which is particularly helpful when Claus needs to get up.
The height of the seat is easy to adjust electrically, and when I adjust the seat to the high position, I almost stand up. This is necessary for me, as I cannot bend at the hip very much.

The brake means Claus can prevent falls. It also means he can use the chair for cooking, kitchen work, and dining without worrying about balance. He simply adjusts the seat to the correct height and then gets going.
There’s no doubt that Claus’ kitchen chair with wheels has had a great impact on his life. This chair has a short seat, which means that he has a good blood supply to his legs when he gets up and leans against the seat, as his thighs are not squeezed.
Furthermore, he points out that the chair seat is comfortable and supports him when he sits down to eat his food at the dinner table. The seat is designed to support an active sitting position.
It is important for Claus to be able to continue performing everyday tasks without help, despite his spastic paralysis.
A kitchen chair with wheels and a lift has enabled Claus to live the life he wants and means he hasn’t been forced to give up his independence. He cooks and does other chores that help boost his zest for life.
