FAQ: VELA Chairs

Most common general questions

  • What is the price of a VELA chair?

The price varies from product to product and can vary depending on tax as well as customs and transport costs:
Chairs with manual height adjustment are available at prices from 1700 EUR.
Chairs with electric lift are available at prices from 3800 EUR.

You can find out the price of the chair you want by contacting your nearest VELA dealer. Find your dealer here.

  • What is the user weight limit for VELA chairs?

We have several types of chairs that can handle different weights. We make chairs for both children and adults. Our standard adult chairs are tested and approved for a 160 kg maximum weight load. We also have bariatric chairs with a 300 kg maximum weight load. You can see the maximum weight load and recommended user weight on a specific chair by looking at the product sheet of the chair or contacting a dealer for specific advice and guidance on which chair to choose.

  • How do I buy a VELA chair?

You can buy a VELA chair through one of our dealers. We do not sell directly. Find your dealer here.

  • What is the difference between a chair with a gas lift and an electric lift?

One of the essential functions of our chairs is height adjustment. You get the most out of your VELA chair when you can change your sitting height according to your activities. Therefore, you must choose the height adjustment according to which type you can manage. Choose between:

Electric lift, if you lack the strength to use your legs whenever you need to change the seat height, or you can’t get up and sit down without assistance.

Gas lift, if you have the leg strength to change your seat height, every time you need to sit differently, and you don’t need help getting up or sitting down.

  • How often should I charge my VELA Tango chair?

Charge the chair every day. We recommend charging the chair when you’re not using it, such as overnight. Do not cover the charger while charging!

Note: Charging VELA chairs with Power Wheels
Battery life depends largely on how frequently the Power Wheels are used. If you rely on the Power Wheels more than using your feet to move, you may need to recharge the chair during the day. The Power Wheels are intended as a supplementary aid rather than a primary driving mode. Watch the charging instructions here.

  • Where can I find a VELA dealer?

  • Can I try a VELA chair before I buy it?

It differs from what our dealers offer when you want to try a chair. Contact your nearest VELA dealer to find out what they can offer. Find your dealer here.

You can read about the different options for textiles and imitation leather on each product. You can also see possible textile types and colours here.

Sales questions

  • How long is the guarantee on a VELA chair

We follow current rules, and you have the right to make a complaint about our chairs according to the Purchase Act in the country where you purchased the chair. You must contact a dealer to find out the warranty in your country.

  • Can I use a VELA chair on my carpet?

VELA Chairs are designed to work well on hard floors such as wood, tiles, and linoleum. However, using these chairs on carpets can be more challenging, depending on the type of carpet and your strength and mobility.

Hard Flooring: VELA chairs move easily on surfaces like wood, tiles, and linoleum.
Carpets: Movement on carpets varies. Thick or loose carpets make it harder to move the chair. We recommend removing loose rugs to ensure safe and easy mobility.
Wall-to-Wall Carpeting: This type of carpet can be easier to navigate because it’s attached to the floor and has no edges. However, moving the chair on carpets requires more physical strength due to its softer surface.

If you have any concerns or need assistance determining the best setup, please don’t hesitate to contact your dealer.

  • I want to become a VELA dealer; how do I apply?

If you are interested in becoming a VELA Partner and distribute/sell VELA products, please contact us here.

  • Is it possible to get a grant/fund/insurance when purchasing a VELA chair?

There are different laws and regulations on grants depending on the country where you live. Contact your nearest dealer and talk about your options. Find your dealer here.

  • How long is the delivery time?

We produce all VELA chairs in Denmark, and the production time from order takes approximately 15 workdays + shipment. Some dealers have a stock, and this will therefore reduce the delivery. Contact your local dealer to talk about how long it will take before you can get your chair.  Find your dealer here.

  • Can I use the VELA chair on hard floors?

Yes, a VELA chair has rubber wheels that roll nicely and “soft” on hard floors.

  • Where do you produce your chairs?

We produce all VELA chairs at our factory in Aalborg, Denmark. We make the chairs from scratch – from the upholstery of the seat and backrest to the last screw is fastened by one of our skilled assembly operators. Your VELA chair is a Danish quality product built for you!

You can read more about how we make our chairs here.

  • You don’t have a VELA dealer in my country; how can I buy one?

Unfortunately, we cannot sell to you if there is no VELA dealer in your country. We don’t sell chairs directly.

  • Why are your chairs so expensive?

We build VELA chairs to last for many years. We use sturdy materials made for personal use for many hours every day. We continuously develop our chairs to give the best user experience, safety and ergonomics.

The VELA chairs are produced by individual order and mounted by hand in Denmark. Furthermore, the VELA chair is CE approved under the Medical Device Regulation (MDR 2017/745), which means that the chair complies with all European security requirements – an ordinary chair does not.

  • What is the height of the seat from the floor at the lowest and highest positions?

The height from the floor to the seat varies from 38 cm to 51 cm, depending on the model. The height adjustment interval is 10, 15, 20 or 30 cm, depending on your need.
You can find the minimum height and maximum height of the specific models by looking at the product sheet of the chair or contact a dealer for personal advice.

  • How wide is a VELA chair?

A standard VELA chair is only 65 cm wide, which means you can get the chair through a doorway and manoeuver it in a small kitchen. The VELA Tango 300 heavy duty chairs are wider. Find the exact measures on the product sheets.

  • Can I buy a cover for the seat of the chair?

Yes, we have water-repellent covers for the chair seat, which is especially good if you have incontinence or spill a lot, e.g. when eating.
You can order it from your dealer

  • Can VELA Chairs be used on various flooring types (carpet, wood, tile)?

VELA Chairs are designed to work well on hard floors such as wood, tiles, and linoleum. However, using these chairs on carpets can be more challenging, depending on the type of carpet and your strength and mobility.

Hard Flooring: VELA chairs move easily on surfaces like wooded floors, tiles, and linoleum.

Carpets: The ease of using the VELA Chair can vary depending on the type of carpet. We do not recommend using the chair on thick or loose carpets, as they can hinder movement and require more physical strength. We advise removing loose rugs for safe and easy mobility.

Wall-to-Wall Carpeting: The VELA Chair can be used on flat (wall-to-wall) carpets, but it requires more physical strength to “walk” the chair around, as carpets have more friction than hard floors.

If you have any concerns or need assistance determining the best setup, please don’t hesitate to contact your dealer.

  • Does the chair need charging every day?

It depends on how much you use the chair’s electrical functions. However, we recommend that you charge the chair every day. Daily charging extends the battery life as well as ensure adequate power for the entire day.

  • Can I replace parts and spare parts on my VELA chair myself?

We strongly advise against replacing or repairing chair parts yourself. Mounting and repairs on the chair may only be carried out by a VELA-approved technician – for your safety.
