Kitchen work can be difficult for people with disabilities, such as poor balance, reduced strength and mobility in muscles and joints, or pain.
They may have difficulties standing at the kitchen table without support or standing for longer periods of time. It may be impossible for them to reach the top cupboards, down to the washing machine or to work at the kitchen table at the height required for precision or work requiring strength.
Finding the right chair
VELA has many years of experience of finding just the right chair, so people with disabilities can maintain their activity level in the kitchen.
VELA chairs for kitchen work are unique in that they support the user whilst standing or sitting by virtue of a stable underframe and central brake, which provide safety and balance. All our chairs for the kitchen have large wheels, which allow you to “walk” the chair forward, making it possible to get around the kitchen while seated.

VELA has several different models of customised chairs and sit-stand chairs, which are particularly well suited to kitchen work and can be adapted to users’ needs.
The height of the seat can be adjusted either using the gas spring or electrically ifthe user does not have the strength in their legs to raise and lower the seat. The seat and back of the chair can be adjusted so that the user can achieve a good, active, ergonomic work posture in the kitchen, and the user’s mobility is improved since it is possible to “walk” the chair forward.
